Some apples are best for eating out of hand...some apples are best for pies... some apples are best for sauce... some apples are best for baking. Many kind (varieties) of apples are good for many different purposes, but to each its own, for your best satisfaction. And so, know your purpose, know the apples on your market and their best season. When selecting apples, choose those that have good color for their variety. are firm to touch and free from bruises and decay spots. Store small supplies in the refrigerator; store large supplies in a cool, dark room. Here is a brief description of some varieties of apples, recommended uses for each and their best months.
