Freezing Seafood
Wrap fresh (unfrozen) seafood in moisture-vapor proof material. Seafood and other fish products frozen when purchased should be stored in original package (or plastic bag) and must be kept solidly frozen until ready for cooking. Wrap cooked seafood in moisture-vapor proof material and freeze.

Suggested Freezer Storage Time
Fresh - 4 to 6 months
Cooked - 2 to 3 months
Salted Smoked - does not freeze satisfactory

Commercially frozen prepackaged seafood usually has adequate cooking directions on the package. IN general, breaded fish products should be cooked from the frozen state. Other fish usually requires prior thawing (in refrigerator and not at room temperature). A 1-pound package thaws in 24 hours (about) in the refrigerator; about 1 hour under running cold water.
