Caloric Values for Foods

 
 
All foods contain stored energy or fuel. As food nutrients are absorbed in the body, this stored energy is released and used by the body for heat (work or play). How much food energy the body needs depends mainly upon two things:
1. The size of the body.
2. How active the body is.
Minor factors such as clothing, climate, season and even housing affect body energy needs to a lesser degree.
A calorie is a unit of measure of the energy value of foods, commonly referred to as caloric values. When we eat more calories than our body needs, the extra unused calories are stored as fat. Surplus fact can build up into a serious overweight condition which in turn can lead to other more serious ailments. Then we need to know sometimes about caloric values of our most commonly consumed foods. The list appearing here may be helpful to you in controlling your diet.
